Durham Story

Durham Students To Question Presidential Candidates

DURHAM, N.C. -

Four Durham students will get their own questions answered by the nation's presidential candidates.

Kedric Wright, Kelvin Wright, Vanessa Canuto, and Ericka Gorham questioned the candidates about immigration policy, gas prices, and the war on Iraq.

The students recorded their questions in May, and according to Nickelodeon, candidates will listen to recorded questions and respond.

Senator John McCain and Senator Barack Obama will answer the questions on a Nickelodeon special slated to air on Sunday night.

"I think candidates should pay attention to young people because the issues will get worse over time if you don't; and we're the next generation of voters, so they should pay attention to the issues now," said Canuto.

Canuto asked the candidates about the impact of modern immigration policy on families.

"Why are they making it like that so that families get split up? Why not give them a chance or something?" she said.

The program is called "Kids Pick the President." Linda Ellerbee will host the program.

It will air on Nickelodeon at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct 12.
